The structure is a single story, hexagonal ground cabin with unique flying buttress supports for the overhang designed by USFS Architect Robert Sandusky. A similar 2 story structure was built at Pilot Peak on the Plumas National Forest.

The lookout constructed in 1974 replacing an earlier R1 ground cabin and was destroyed in a fire at an unknown date
