Description

This Region 5, 1934 design - BC-201 Forest Fireman Lookout Station, a 19'x30' wood frame building with a 270 degree glassed "Lookout Room", kitchen, bedroom and enclosed porch, is now gone. The structure was likely constructed in the mid-1930's along with many other lookout structures in the area including Estelle Mountain Lookout, Santa Margarita Lookout, Silverado Point Lookout and the replacement tower at Santiago Peak on the Trabuco Ranger District. All of these structures were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps for the Forest Service 1935-37. BC-201 Stations were constructed at secondary sites or used as guard stations and residence cabins for observation only towers. No primary lookout structure was ever constructed at Sierra Peak. Today the peak serves as a major communications site along with the nearby "Talking Mountain", Santiago Peak.
