Description

The former tower was operated by the Kentucky State Division of Forestry. The ridge access is no longer available for vehicles. The Viva community was an (underground) coal mining camp established in the early 1900s. Much later the area was also (surface} mined into the 1970s.

Many of the underground and surface mine sites qualified and were reclaimed under Federal and State funds under the Abandoned Mine Lands programs. The former tower site could not be accessed. The on-line aerial / satellite photos did not reveal anything of the site being left.
