Description
A tower was built here in 1940, an L-4 cab was added in 1951, and a 40' pole L-4 tower replaced these in 1955 1.5 miles south of the summit on the ridgetop. It was used for emergencies only beginning in the 1960s and is now gone. Keith Argow, Ph.D., CF, adds: "Wickiup Lookout is a sad story for me. The logger owner of Camp 18 had contacted ODF to get it for his museum. He thought he had it, pending getting it moved. At his request I contacted Columbia Helicopters who agreed to airlift it, all of this within weeks. Unfortunately in the same time period it was taken apart and burned."
