This 100' Aermotor MC-39 tower with 7'x7' cab is one of the few remaing fire lookout towers in Texas. In 2003 the tower was moved by the Jeffersonian Institute to its present location in downtown Jefferson, Texas. It is currently owned by Etex Wireless and used as a cell tower. The Jefferson Office of Tourism Development and Marion County Chamber of Commerce are offering to work with Etex Wireless to restore the steps of the tower and open it as an educational, historical resource. A fire lookout has always been important to the East Texas Region, where the timber industry is prominent.
